Love Those Haters!

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;”‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:44‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Our human nature wants to protect our personal choices. We want to protect the choices of others who think like us. We want to stand up and speak out when people are being persecuted and treated badly. Reflex of emotion draws us to want to throat punch those who talk crazy to us and lash out with long pupblic posts when we are accused falsely.
God’s word says to love them and pray for those who hurt us. This is something I struggle with almost daily. It is so hard to pray for someone who constantly lashes out at you. It seems unfair to let things go and stay silent to all the haters. I have learned through this struggle that when I pray for those who are hurting me and treating me unfairly, that I feel better. Taking it to God and trusting Him to deal with them takes that pressure off of me. See, the devil works us in many different ways. If he can get us away from God by hurting our feelings and feed that hurt and resentment, then we become focused and consumed by sin and flesh. This draws us away from God and that is the purpose of the devil, to keep us as far away from God as possible.
As children of God we have a responsibility to spread the word of God and be the example of His light in this world. When we go around fighting and mouthing back at every hater, then we are doing the same as them who hate us. We have to stay close to God and His word in every situation. We can’t hate those who don’t believe in God. We can’t shun people who don’t live by God’s word. We must have love and compassion for everyone, not just the one’s who are living like we think they should. It is possible to treat people the way you want to be treated even when we don’t agree with the way they act or live.

“To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.”

Proverbs 21:3 KJV

What are your thoughts on this verse? I take its meaning as doing right and treating others right is more important than sacrificing.
