The Shepherd’s Hook

They hold the lanterns that light the path to my front door. Hummingbirds feast on feeders hung high from their hooks. I imagine David, the psalmist, tired and weary, resting his head on the crook of his staff. Maybe he used it to drum out a rhythm on a rock while he sang psalms to God. His occupation and tool, inspiration and example of God’s love and protection over him. A timeless example to us that God lights our path, feeds us, and his rod and staff they protect and comfort us.
